The Denning Center — counseling and accelerated resolution therapy

You don’t have to keep carrying what’s heavy.

Therapy for trauma, post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression — so you can feel like yourself again.

Jim reads and answers every message himself.

Where most people start

Therapy that gets to the root.

Most people who contact me have been coping for a long time — functioning, and exhausted by how much effort that takes. I use talk therapy and Accelerated Resolution Therapy to work on the cause rather than the surface.

You do not have to know what is wrong, or have a label, before you get in touch.

Meet Jim Denning

Careful, experienced, and honest about what therapy can do.

Twelve years in practice, trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and EMDR, and a former engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. I will tell you plainly whether I am the right person — including when I am not.

What people come in for

A list of problems, not a menu of diagnoses.

You do not need to arrive with the right word for it. Working out what is actually going on is the first part of the job, and it is often not the thing you booked the appointment about.

  • Trauma, recent or long past
  • Post-traumatic stress
  • Anxiety and constant worry
  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Phobias
  • Narcissistic abuse and coercive control
  • Sexual, emotional, and physical abuse
  • Compulsive sexual behavior
  • Substance and alcohol misuse
  • Suicidal thoughts

The approach people come here for

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) works on the image a difficult memory leaves behind. Guided eye movements help the brain reprocess what it is holding, so the memory stays but stops delivering the same physical jolt.

You do not have to narrate what happened out loud. It is often briefer than open-ended talk therapy — though it is not a guarantee, not right for everyone, and how many sessions you need is assessed rather than promised.

A first-person account of rejecting a treatment-resistant diagnosis, and the tools that got him through. Not a treatment plan, and not a substitute for care.
